DENVER, Oct. 26 (UPI) — Ryan Smyth’s goal in the fifth
round of the shootout Saturday night boosted the Colorado Avalanche
to a 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
It was Colorado’s fifth win in a row after starting the
season with three consecutive losses.
Defenseman Jordan Leopold had scored the tying goal late in
the third period. Also in regulation, goalie Peter Budaj stopped
29-of-30 shots.
Buffalo’s lone tally came from left wing Daniel Paille at
9:18 of the second period. Goalie Ryan Miller was beaten once on 26
shots in regulation for the Sabres, who have split their last four
games.
Colorado right wing Milan Hejduk has four goals and two
assists in his last five games, while center Paul Stastny’s
seven-game point streak ended.
